Heavy Duty Equipment Technician

Responsibilities / Duties:

Reporting directly to the Vehicle Shop Manager, the Heavy Duty Equipment Technician will diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and maintain machinery, in both lifesaving Armour and Defence applications.

  • Perform visual inspections, identifying systems type and applications
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machines
  • Detect, troubleshoot and repair:
  • engine systems
  • engine management systems
  • exhaust, intake and emission control systems
  • electrical systems – starting and charging
  • hydraulic systems
  • clutches and transmissions
  • drive shafts, drive axle assemblies and final drives
  • steering systems
  • braking systems
  • suspension systems
  • air supply and auxiliary air systems
  • heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • tires, wheels, frames and undercarriages
  • earth moving equipment
  • Maintain equipment and keep maintenance records
  • Perform mechanics work to required standards
  • Perform electrical assembly to industry standards
  • Meet all specifications and standards in production
  • Complete visual inspections to ensure quality standards are met
  • Review work instruction, procedures and checklists, and ensure that materials and equipment needed for production are ready and the work area is prepared
  • Act as a team leader for small groups of employees if required
  • Perform general shop duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Wear and use appropriate safety equipment
  • Read, interpret and follow drawings, specifications and assembly instructions
  • Operate machinery and use tools safely
  • Assist the supervisor in meeting all production schedules and deadlines
  • Work with the supervisor to resolve any technical, productivity, safety or schedule problems

Qualifications:

  • Valid Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Certification
  • Current applicable certifications and licenses
  • Post secondary education required

  • Excellent work ethic and proven dependability
  • Outstanding enthusiasm and motivation
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team or independently with minimal supervision
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Capable of performing in a high-volume production facility
