Manager Human Resources & Administration (Miramichi, NB)

Reporting directly to the President, the Human Resources & Administration Manager leads DEW’s Human Resources programs and policies as they apply to employee relations, compensation, benefits, performance and staffing levels. He/she also manages the health and safety and administration programs at DEW’s Miramichi location.

Responsibilities & Duties:  (Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following)

Strategic HR

  •  Participate in planning, developing, and implementing HR programs
  •  Analyze business issues as they pertain to Human Resources and make appropriate recommendations
  •  Ensure HR strategies are in line with corporate strategies
  •  Provide leadership for cultural change

Policy Development

  •  Ensure company policies are well designed to achieve business goals and to optimize employee commitment and individual development and comply with all relevant regulations

Recruitment

  •  Oversee recruiting for Miramichi facility
  •  Ensure recruiting practices meet applicable laws, maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations
  •  Respond to new hire requests and take appropriate action
  •  Ensure job advertisements and postings meet applicable regulations and reflect the goals of the company
  •  Oversee and conduct interviews for salaried and hourly staff as required
  •  Conduct contract negotiations and finalize employment contracts

Employee Relations

  •  Ensure fair treatment of all employees
  •  Counsel and advise management regarding personnel issues
  •  Provide conflict resolution advice and intervention as required
  •  Assist line management with both formal and informal communications
  •  Oversee new employee orientation programs
  •  Conduct exit interviews as required and report to senior management regarding trends and potential actions required

Organizational Development

  •  Administer performance management system and training program
  •  Work with managers and supervisors to deliver performance evaluations, identify developmental needs, and create solutions
  •  Oversee all employee training requests and scheduling of courses

Compensation and Benefits

  •  Review and implement wage, salary and benefit plans
  •  Analyze existing job descriptions and salary ranges and make recommendations in accordance with market conditions
  •  Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay and benefits
  •  Oversee time entry for Miramichi employees to ensure accurate and timely pay delivery
  •  Manage disability and injury claims

Administration/Security

  •  Act as an Alternate Security Officer for the company overseeing physical and personnel security
  •  Act as the Designated Official for the Controlled Goods Program for the Miramichi facility
  •  Control all confidential documents and personnel files
  •  Oversee the purchase of office equipment, furniture, and supplies
  •  Respond to administrative concerns and questions
  •  Ensure Reception is staffed and functioning professionally

Health and Safety

  •  Oversee and direct health and safety in the Miramichi facility
  •  Manage an Early and Safe Return to Work Program
  •  Work with managers and supervisors to continuously improve safety program

Other

  •  Adhere to the regulations and standards set out in the company’s environmental, health and safety and quality systems
  •  Travel as required

Experience:

  •  Minimum of five years HR Management experience
  •  Experience working in manufacturing industry
  •  Strong expertise in HR policies and procedures
  •  Strong understanding of employment laws and practices
  •  CHRP designation is considered an asset
  •  Experience using an HRIS system
  •  Experience working with and influencing management and supervisors on discreet matters

Education/Professional Certification:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in business (or equivalent), with emphasis in Human Resource Management
