Production Plan Specialist
The Production Plan Specialist reports directly to Production Manager.

Job Purpose:
The Production Plan Specialists is responsible for coordinating the work of various departments involved in the production of high-quality products.

Responsibilities & Duties:
(Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following)

  • Plans and schedules production orders based on established priorities and the availability of required materials and capacity. Follows up to determine actual performance versus estimates.
  • Reviews amount of material required to complete job orders.
  • May train supervisors and other employees on basic Visual/Protected Flow Manufacturing (PFM) functions, such as dispatch lists, cycle count sheets, transaction, work orders, and other key product flow functions.
  • Draws up production schedule (PFM) to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping date according to forecasts and customer orders. Coordinates with the manufacturing floor to actively manage the production schedule.
  • May assist with workload scheduling on the floor as needed.
  • May assemble work order packets complete with work order router, completion dates, and instructions for subsequent operations.
  • Follows and audits production orders through the production process to ensure the proper schedule is followed.
  • Uses advanced planning tools to put materials in safety stock or level load.
  • Manages customer builds, releases, and level loads based on customer forecast and required Kan Ban where applicable.
  • Monitors manufacturing system transactions for accuracy and works with leaders to correct discrepancies and eliminate the fundamental causes of the problems.
  • Provides planning data analysis as required
  • May change or set up Bill of Materials (BOM), work orders for engineering tests, specialty areas, or start up.
  • Coordinates material delivery with inventory to support manufacturing schedule. May examine material delivered to production to verify conformance to specifications.
  • May assist on raw material requirements. Reviews raw material inventory, as needed, by analyzing forecast, trends in demand changes in lead time, minimum order quantities, and safety stock levels.
  • Compiles records such as in process production reports, and status and location of materials.
  • May assist in cycle count review and/or monitor obsolete inventory.
  • Performs system transactions to report movement of material between manufacturing operations and into finished goods and monitors daily progress of manufacturing orders.
  • Troubleshoots inventory errors, variances, and general transaction errors.
  • Provides timely disposition of non-confirming materials and maintains supplier performance measurements based on quality products, delivery, and service.
  • Monitors quality, service, and delivery issues and issues corrective actions as needed.
  • Seeks to apply new technologies to meet company objectives. Stays current on industry trends and developments in technology.
  • Recommends new tools and systems to enhance efficiency and quality in the planning area.
  • Expedites overtime planning and communication of schedules to internal departments.
  • Reviews, generates, approves or submits for approval supply services, supplies, quotations, terms, etc.
  • Analyzes information and requests received from engineering via ECF (Engineering Change Form) and effectively communicates the requirements to manufacturing personnel.
  • Contacts Team Leads and Department Supervisors relative to availability of materials, delays, changing orders and handling problems in order to meet the production plan.
  • Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedule to meet unforeseen conditions.
  • Maintains inventory records and requisitions as necessary to ensure delivery schedules are met for WIP and finished goods.
  • Tracks and reports key manufacturing metrics, such as on time delivery, inventory targets and work order cycle time against goal; assists in cycle time reduction and efficiency improvement efforts.
  • Provides training/cross-training to ensure employees are in compliance with departmental and safety standards and are up to date with required training.
  • Ensures that planning personnel are trained on all required work procedures and work instructions.
  • Provides clarification to employees on issues pertaining to department processes, interpretation of product specifications, technical drawings, and purchase orders.
  • Prepares lists of required materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Enters purchase requisitions to obtain materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assists and/or performs in any and all areas as assigned.
  • May work any and all shifts/days as required.

Other:

  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations and follow the environmental and quality management systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/ Professional Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree + 4-years’ experience in related field or 10 years of experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • APICS certification in production and inventory management preferred.

Skills:

  • Maintains high level of understanding of technical product and process knowledge.
  • Possesses an advanced understanding of MRP (material requirements planning) tools and techniques.
  • Performs tasks requiring advanced proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook and Visual Manufacturing.
