Mechanical Engineering Student (Fall Term)

Reporting to the Senior Engineer the Mechanical Engineering Student’s primary function is to ensure assigned designs meet standards and customer specifications.


(Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following)

  • Work closely under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, learning DEW Engineering and Development’s system and methods.
  • Assist in plan and spec analysis in order to provide clear, traceable and coordinated interpretations of the design/drawings for construction.
  • Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts, interferences and errors/omissions.
  • Act liaison with Engineering in expediting drawings and related information.
  • Monitor shop work, including contract work.
  • Participate in the continuous updating and accurate generation of as built documents.
  • Prepare models, drawings and sketches to support Engineering work as required.
  • Attend project meetings as requested or required.
  • Coordinate periodic job-related photographs for records.


  • Travel as required.
  • Adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations and follow the environmental and quality management systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Current Mechanical Engineering student.
  • Knowledge of drawings and specifications, materials, and required standards.
  • Previous knowledge of Inventor is an asset.
  • Proficient in department’s computer system, department software, and typing as necessary.


  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to represent the company and project team in a professional manner to stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet deadlines as required
  • Excellent problem solving and analytic skills.
